SINGAPORE — Speednames, an international digital domain name registrar, has partnered with Indonesia’s PT. Domain Solusi Perdana (DSP) to provide domain name registration, management and protection for businesses and individuals in the country via DSP’s Web site.
According to Speednames officials, the company’s technology, complemented by DSP’s local experience, will enable Internet users to digitally search, register, manage and protect their company names and brands in 115 top-level domains (TLDs).
“We’re very happy to work with Speednames because we believe that businesses and individuals using the Internet can be better safeguarded in cyberspace. Domain name is a valuable asset and should be owned privately by only a someone who has the legal right of it,” said Ir. Supeno Lembang, president director of DSP.
New York-headquartered Speednames has signed up more than 50 partnerships with telcos, service providers and Internet portals since its launch in 1999. It had recently joined Afilias, a global consortium of 18 domain name registrars, applying to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to operate an unrestricted TLD, providing more choice beyond the current .com, .net and .org. Afilias was awarded the right to operate the .info registry in November last year.
Added Martin Roll, vice-president of Global Marketing and PR at Speednames, “Speednames is moving rapidly into the rest of Asia Pacific and we’re working closely with our partners to encourage the correct use of the Internet and protection against cybersquatters. Businesses and individuals need to know how they can protect their digital identity and we know our newly formed alliance with DSP can help to spread this awareness in Indonesia.
We understand our partners, such as ISPs, telcos and Internet portals, need to market these solutions fast in order to help us reach out to more Internet users. We provide our partners with technology solutions on domain name management, which are easily adaptable and shorten time-to-market.”
Speednames intends to transfer its domain name management expertise to the rest of the markets in the region. These capabilities include:
* Credibility as an ICANN accredited registrar
* Ability to integrate all non-restricted generic TLDs (.com, .net, .org)
* Experience as one of the first to introduce multilingual domain name registration in Chinese (both simplified and traditional), Korean and Japanese
* Capabilities as a founding member of the Afilias consortium
* Provision of a registration queue for three new TLDs (.name, .biz and .info)
