Sprint Signs Up Convergys

Network operator Sprint has signed a multi-million-dollar
contract with human resources outsourcer Convergys , the
companies announced today.

The three-year agreement includes Sprint’s Multi-Protocol Label Switching
Virtual Private Network services to bring voice
and data onto a single platform for Convergys’ call centers and data
centers.

On the wireless side, Sprint will provide a number of mobile products
including the Sprint PCS Vision Smart Device Treo products by PalmOne.

As long-distance revenues wane, adding enterprise customers to long-term
deals is a smart strategy for carriers like Sprint.

Corporate customers were key to SBC’s acquisition of AT&T and Verizon’s pickup
of MCI.

“Sprint is very well positioned to provide integrated voice and data
services over a single platform, through one agreement,” George Rewick,
Convergys’ senior vice president of global network services, said in a
statement.

The Convergys agreement falls into a strategy Sprint laid out in October to
bundle services, including IP services and wireless voice and data. The
company supports multinational companies and more than 95 percent of the Fortune
1000.
