Webcast Solutions will be responsible for the deployment of high quality streaming audio and video services, such as sporting events, concert tours, original programming, interactive chats and consumer promotions.

StarMedia Broadband is designed to deliver Spanish and Portuguese-language users streaming media services and programming, including audio, video and interactive multimedia via the Internet.

“The creation of StarMedia Broadband represents the next wave in offerings to our worldwide users, providing them with a richer multimedia Internet experience,” said Fernando Espuelas, StarMedia Network’s chairman and chief executive officer.

“We are very excited to welcome Webcast Solutions into the StarMedia family. Their international expertise and proven track record will help us to further strengthen our position as an integral part of the communication and entertainment needs of the Spanish- and Portuguese-language Internet user.”

Also on Wednesday, Starmedia launched Juegos Multiplayer, a real-time Spanish-language gaming service.

Starmedia worked with Mpath Interactive, Inc. to provide the game suite, which includes reversi, backgammon, damas, espades and hearts, along with an instant messaging service, chatrooms and real-time voice-chat. To play, users must register and download free software.

A Portuguese version is set to launch next month.
