T-Mobile Executive Appointed to White House Board

Apr 25, 2003

President Bush intends to appoint John W. Stanton, chairman and CEO of Western Wireless and chairman of T-Mobile USA, as the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) representative to the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC).

The Office of the President created NSTAC in 1982 to advise the president and executive branch on matters regarding national security and emergency preparedness as it relates to telecommunications. Membership is restricted to not more than 30 principals who meet in Washington every 9-12 months.

Kathryn Condello, VP Industry Operations, will be CTIA’s representative to the NSTAC’s Industry Executive Subcommittee, the group’s principal working body. The subcommittee holds regular working sessions to consider issues, collect information, perform analyses and develop reports and recommendations for presentation to the NSTAC principals.

“John Stanton has served the wireless industry in a number of vital roles over the years. His experience, his expertise and his history of service will be assets to the committee and to the president, and will further ensure the protection of our nation’s critical infrastructure,” said Tom Wheeler, president and CEO of CTIA.

Other appointees to the board include James F. Albaugh (Boeing), Frank Ianna (AT&T), Richard Notebaert (Qwest), Hector de Jesus Ruiz (AMD), Patricia F. Russo (Lucent), Stratton D. Sclavos (VeriSign), and Susan Spradley (Nortel).
