Telecom Italia subsidiary TMI Telemedia International (TMI) has relocated its Asia Pacific regional headquarters from Hong Kong to Singapore to promote TMI Singapore as a regional ISP, and to offer its traditional services and new Business Internet solutions to customers of all sizes.
“World-class telecommunications, a supportive financial system, well-trained human resources, a regulatory environment favorable to innovation, a stable political climate, leading edge infrastructure, and easy links to the rest of the world are some of the factors that TMI considered when taking the decision to relocate its Asia Pacific regional headquarters to Singapore,” said Dino Civitarese, TMI’s Asia Pacific managing director.
The move to Singapore follows an announcement in February this year that the company would further expand in the country over the next two years. After the Singapore Government deregulated the local telecom industry, TMI had identified the business opportunity of localizing and re-focusing its Singapore operations with an aggressive plan — Singapore BISP Project — which will propel TMI Singapore as a regional ISP offering basic and value-added IP services to the business community.
TMI had also set up a new Internet data center (IDC) in its 16,000 square-foot premises in the Western part of the island Republic; the IDC setup saw TMI double its headcount in the early part of this year.
South Asia has also proven to be a new region of growth as more multinational corporations establish their regional headquarters in Singapore, TMI officials said. That, along with government initiatives that promote bilateral investment between Singapore and Italy, made the move to Singapore attractive.
In order to beef up its service offerings in the city state, TMI Singapore has expanded its product portfolio; it will continue to offer traditional international connectivity products such as MondoNet (IP VPN service), DATAFAST (frame relay-based data networking service), IML (international managed network service via dedicated digital links), firewall management and ATM solutions that are aimed at multinational corporations.
TMI has also unveiled its new suite of Business Internet solutions targeted at cost-conscious small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). These solutions will comprise broadband access, leased lines, network ISDN, unified messaging, firewall management, and voice-over-IP.
The combination of both the traditional services and the new Business Internet solutions will give TMI the competitive edge to provide its customers with true end-to-end, customized business solutions, company officials said.
