Tom Parsons, editor and president of the travel site Bestfares.com, will
answer questions about air travel during an online chat session from a
British Airways jet, flying at 39,000 feet above the Atlantic.
There will be two sessions–due to “overwhelming public response”–on Oct. 8,
1998 at 7:00 pm EST for one hour, and Oct. 13, 1998 at 10:00 am EST
for an hour and a half.
“What better location can there be to bring
sky-high airfares back down to earth than inside a commercial aircraft at
39,000 feet?” said Parsons. “This Internet chat proves that business and leisure travelers
can now connect to anyone anywhere.”
Among the topics being discussed will be: how to find the lowest
published air fares; how to reduce your fares by using promotional
offers; and how to take advantage of buy-one-get-one-free offers to
Europe.
British Telecom is providing the technology to enable the link-up
between the aircraft and the Internet, using three satellite telephone lines
and two laptops. It is thus truly an Anglo-American enterprise, as
confirmed by Tom Parsons who noted, “I chose the British Airways
Boeing 777 since it is the newest American made aircraft with the latest
high tech toys, which will change the way people travel and
communicate on the road.”
