The UK’s first Jewish Web portal jewish.co.uk
has introduced a Jewish Services Directory.
Competition
among portals for Jewish users in the UK is now becoming intense, with
new offerings being announced regularly by three different sites.
“People have been asking for a dedicated services directory and we are
pleased to be able to deliver it,” said a jewish.co.uk spokeswoman.
“Our intention since day one way back in 1996 has been to deliver a Jewish
Web
site that offers something for all sections of the community and provides a
useful service to them. The new directory will save people time and energy
as it gives them an ever growing list of people, businesses and communal
projects who can provide the Jewish interest services and needs they are
after.”
The new services at jewish.co.uk enable users to plan a wedding, arrange a
Bar-mitzvah, or organise catering for other events. Soon, the directory will
also offer listings of Jewish communal services that cater for people’s
social
and personal needs.
Competing with jewish.co.uk for users amongst the
UK’s estimated 90,000-strong online Jewish
community are: jewishnet.org.uk
and
Kosher Online, both of which
have a substantial following.
To keep ahead of the pack, jewish.co.uk is planning other services that
will appear over the next six to eight weeks, including a Jewish dating
service, additional message boards, and more extensive advance information
about Jewish festivals.
jewish.co.uk says it will consider listing any Jewish business or communal
service if applications are made by e-mail giving the business/service name,
address and telephone number.
