The newly renamed CathayOnline has said that it wants to expand into the Chinese retail market for set-top boxes.

The Chinese Internet Service provider, formerly known as Sichuan Torch Information Technologies Co. Ltd., said it was planning to sell its TopBox set-top box to provide Internet access.

To that end, it is upgrading its technical infrastructure in the Sichuan Province of the People’s Republic of China.

The company’s efforts to deliver set-top boxes roughly parallels those of another company, the California-based MyWeb, which also hopes to deliver Internet access to Chinese homes using set-tops.
