Web.de Receives its Own Local Area Code

BERLIN — The Karlsruhe-based Web.de AG is the first Internet company in Germany to
receive its own local area code from the Regulatory Authority for
Telecommunications and Posts (RegTP).

The allocation of the number 01212
creates a local Web.de network for users, which is comparable to an area
code such as 089 for Munich or 040 for Hamburg. This will enable Web.de AG
to assign telephone numbers independently in the future and to offer new,
Internet-based telecommunications services.

As its first application, Web.de will assign lifetime telephone numbers to
registered users of its FreeMail Unified Messaging Service. The
Nuremberg-based Workways GmbH, as a wholly owned subsidiary, offers
Internet-based Unified Communication solutions to companies. With the number
01212, an Internet-based telecommunications solution under the name Workways
UC (Unified Communication) will now be offered as a whole.
