Wireless Cradle Coming for Palm

Paging network operator Motient said Thursday
that it will make a special cradle available to Palm V users that
provides an always-on wireless connection to its paging network.

The cradle was developed by Australian vendor Wavenet
International and will be available by the middle of the year, the
company said. Motient didn’t provide pricing information about the
cradle and service, which will give Palm devices some of the same
functionality as BlackBerry devices from Research In Motion.

“The addition of this cradle to the Motient network opens up an
enormous potential market for Palm-based applications, not to
mention new subscribers to our network,” said Walter V Purnell, Jr.,
president and CEO of Motient.

The cradle will maintain an always-on connection to Motient’s
network and will alert users of incoming messages.
