Yahoo! UK & Ireland has
entered a UK marketing agreement with satellite broadcaster
BSkyB, extending a relationship
between Yahoo! and News Corp. established in the U.S. earlier this year.

“By utilising the powerful online properties of Yahoo! Sky’s
online presence can reach a new level of awareness,” claimed
Ian West, Sky Entertainment’s managing director.

“As a leader in the pay television category in the UK, we’re
delighted to work with a leading Internet company like Yahoo!
UK & Ireland to explore new and innovative ways to expand
the reach and generate further awareness of our respective
media offerings.”

Fabiola Arredondo, managing director Yahoo! Europe, expressed
her satisfaction at concluding the deal, but did not reveal
any further details.

“Together we’re able to leverage the strengths of our brands
and further reinforce our broad-based marketing initiatives in
the UK,” she said.

In the past few days it has become clear that News Corp.
has become very serious about the Internet, following earlier
caution. Rupert Murdoch was quoted in the British weekend
press as saying that it would become “an Internet company.”
