Zapata Corp. continued its recent Web site shopping spree with the announcement that its ZAP Corp. Internet subsidiary will acquire Advancing Women, a bilingual Web site for women in the work place.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Advancing Women is the latest Web site or Internet business the company has agreed to acquire in what marks a busy week.
On Monday Zapata announced its intent to purchase or invest in 21 Internet sites and e-commerce businesses which will be integrated into ZAP’s new Internet portal, ZAP.com.
Advancing Women offers international networking, business and career news, along with forums, chat rooms, and strategies aimed at helping women succeed. Zapata said it was featured as a top women’s business site in the June 1998 issue of Elle Magazine, and has won numerous other awards.
Earlier this week, ZAP president and CEO Avram Glazer said the acquisitions were aimed at turning ZAP.com into one of the leading Internet portals.
The Web newcomer’s stock surged after Monday’s announcement as all things Internet continued to attract the attention of investors. ZAP (NASDAQ: ZAP) was up another 1 3/16 today at 17 9/16 at 2:20PM EST on today’s news.
