Cross-media marketer Bite Communications has hired two strategists to lead the formation of a mobile communications practice. The new unit will consolidate experts across the agency’s global offices in service of businesses in the mobile sector. Clients will include operators, software vendors, and content, enterprise and consumer service providers.
Leslie Nakajima and Anne-miek Hamelinck both come to Bite with PR backgrounds and experience with mobile brands. Nakajima joins from Openwave Systems, where she led public relations; and at mmO2, British Telecom’s mobile Internet business, she led the corporate and regional PR efforts for its mobile portal business. Anne-miek Hamelinck’s career includes mobile and PR work in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. for such companies as Cisco and Casio.
Bite has also opened an office in Stockholm, a response to mobile business growth in that region.
Juxta Digital, an interactive media consultancy in New York, has launched a site for alumni of Columbia University’s continuing education information technology programs. The new Web presence provides a directory of alumni, allows discussion forums, and contains a job database. Alumni can update their directory listings with personal comments, job history information, and skills.
The site is also a resource for recruiters seeking to target job opportunities to IT pros, and provides a special area for employers to enter and post job information. Additionally, Juxta’s e-mail newsletter system allows administrators to send announcents of events, speaking engagements, and other items of interest to alumni. Columbia hopes the site will grow to become a useful resource for alumni of the programs to stay in touch and exchange ideas, job leads, and career tips.
Multimedia Live has launched an e-commerce site for CompactAppliance.com. With its MarketLive Express product, Multimedia Live gave the appliance retailer a roster of features that includes live customer service chat, tips and tools for helping shoppers find products, and a buyer’s guide, along with standard transactional functions. The site has several bells and whistles, including a “Cooling Capacity Calculator,” which helps shoppers determine what size window air conditioner they need.
The agency said the site’s special features were geared toward positioning CompactAppliance.com as a customer-friendly online destination.
Ottawa-based Data Kinetics has tapped the Verrecchia Group to be its PR agency of record. Under the engagement, Verrecchia will plan and implement a PR program designed to raise the visibility for tableBASE, the company’s flagship software product. The campaign will reach out primarily to the U.S. editorial and analyst communities. In addition, the firm will help Data Kinetics develop strategic positioning and product marketing messages for each of its vertical markets.
