Ann Handley, editor in chief of ClickZ,
has some interesting coverage of the
Web Marketing 98 conference in Washington, DC, including success stories, and,
even more fun, some Web marketing disasters.
Rick Bruner of IMT Strategies highlighted five classic Web marketing mistakes
punctuated with plenty of entertaining examples. Like GM cars, for failing to register generalmotors.com, “allowing
it to reside with a. . . Net hobbyist with radical views.” We tried the
generalmotors.com site and couldn’t get in.
Big problems for Web sites, Bruner said, are content that is less than
compelling (or laughably unrelated), domain oversights, slow design, poor
navigation and privacy pitfalls.
