Trend Micro Adds Postini Spam-Fighting Software

Spam-fighting software maker Postini has linked up with anti-virus software maker Trend Micro to promote its software to Trend Micro’s customers.

The deal calls for Tokyo-based Trend Micro to offer Postini software as an add-on option to its own suite of anti-virus and Internet content security offerings. The company counts among its customers Citibank, DHL, and Fidelity Investments.

“Postini is excited to partner with a company like Trend Micro that no only has global leadership in the anti-virus market but that also focuses on providing high-performance gateway solutions that corporate customers demand,” said Shinya Akamine, Postini’s president and chief executive.

Redwood City, Calif.-based Postini boasts highly efficient spam-fighting capabilities drawn from the 50 million messages it processes each day for more than 800 customers. According to its statistics, spam has increased 65 percent in the past year, accounting for over 60 percent of all e-mail traffic.

RedSheriff Adds Location Technology

Web analytics firm RedSheriff said it would begin to offer Digital Envoy’s NetAcuity geo-intelligence technology in its customer intelligence suite.

NetAcuity uses IP addresses to ascertain a user’s location, down to the city level. Combined with RedSheriff’s Web analytics offerings, the information can be used by publishers to better target online advertising based on a user’s location, connection speed and ISP.

“NetAcuity is an excellent tool for understanding the behavior of both registered and unregistered site visitors,” said Dave Keller, Digital Envoy’s president and chief executive. “Now, end customers can see how a whole new set of real-time parameters affects user behavior, and can adjust their campaigns accordingly for maximum effectiveness.”
