iBEAM Broadcasting Corp. Tuesday announced that its On-Target streaming ad insertion service has served in excess of 12 million streaming audio and video ads since its launch earlier this year.

The product, which aims to give advertisers a revenue-generating tool for the Web that is similar to traditional broadcast media, has now been enhanced to include a new set of click-through capabilities that provide an interactive aspect to the service.

The service inserts targeted streaming ads into content that is broadcast over the iBEAM network and its new interactive capabilities allow potential customers to click-through streaming video ads to make purchases, request more information on a product, respond to surveys or visit an advertiser’s Web site.

On-Target leverages the capabilities of RealSystem 8 including RealVideo 8.

“The beauty of On-Target is that it gives our customers a way to turn their content into dollars through advertising that is as crisp and effective as radio or TV spots,” said Peter Desnoes, president and CEO of iBEAM. “By making the service interactive, it will be in some ways even better than traditional advertising.”

“Streaming advertising provides companies with the ability to reach consumers in a new and engaging way. The integration of On-Target with RealSystem 8 allows iBEAM customers the opportunity to send compelling, rich, and targeted advertising to the more than 140 million unique registered RealPlayer users,” said Tom Hull, vice president of Media Systems, RealNetworks.
