LinkShare Offers Enhanced Ad Targeting

Feb 25, 1998

LinkShare Corp. in New York City, a
provider of revenue-sharing software and host of an affiliates network on the
Internet, introduced LinkProfile, a software program to integrate
personalization technology with an affiliates marketing program.

LinkProfile builds profiles by recording users’ online activity, including
the types of sites visited, banners clicked, and products purchased. Using
LinkProfile, merchant and site members of The LinkShare Network can better
understand visitors to their site and deliver targeted product offerings to
each individual user based on their particular interests, the company said.

“By delivering ads based on a user’s specific profile, we can increase click-
through and conversion rates for LinkShare’s merchants and sites by targeting
products to their visitors,” said Stephen Messer, founder and CEO of
LinkShare. “Additionally, online shoppers will now have the advantage of
viewing advertisements and special promotions for products that match their
unique interests.”

Just before a profiled consumer enters a member site, LinkShare cross-checks
hundreds of criteria to provide the most appropriate online banner
advertisement for that user.

LinkShare can also serve a small, pop-up window featuring a particular
merchant’s product targeted based on that specific user’s preferences. This
unique feature, provided only through LinkShare, places products of distinct
interest or special offers directly in front of the consumer at key
purchasing points, the company said.
