Marketing and media news site Media Central launched “Designs for a
Drug-Free America,” a Web banner design competition to benefit the Partnership
for a Drug-Free America.
The competition, which is open to professional designers, will be accepting
entries through April 20. Judging will be conducted by an independent
committee chaired by Frank Dudley, executive director of the Internet
Advertising Bureau. The finalists will be announced in May 1998, and the
winning banner will be announced at a subsequent press event in New York City.
The goal of the contest is to drive traffic to the Partnership for a
Drug-Free America web site. The winning banner will be featured on Media
Central and other sites including USNews Online, Christian Science Monitor
Electronic Edition, CNN Interactive and iVillage’s Parent Soup.
The Web site of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America provides information
about drugs, drug paraphernalia and descriptions of the negative effects of
various substances.
“We’re pleased that our site will be the venue for such an important project,”
said Bill Duke, Media Central publisher. “Our goal is to select a banner that
will reach as many concerned parents and educators as possible.”
“Our mission is to change public attitudes about drugs and to
denormalize drug use by making it less glamorous and less acceptable,” said
Sally Marshall, senior vice president of Partnership for a Drug-Free
America. “The more parents
that visit our site to educate themselves about the problem, the better
prepared they will be to talk to their kids about drugs.”
