Nearly $2 Billion in Online Classified Ad Sales Seen by 2001

Up to $1.9 billion a year will be spent on online classified advertising in
the United States by the year 2001, according to industry researchers who
appeared at the 1st Online Classifieds Industry Symposium in San Francisco.


The conference was organized by Electric Classifieds Inc. (ECI), a provider of
technology for hosting private-branded online classified sites.


Estimates on the size of the fast-growing online classified market were
provided by representatives of Forrester Research and Jupiter Communications.
Jupiter predicts the online classified market will reach $1.9 billion in
domestic sales in the year 2002, while Forrester estimated the market at $1.5
billion.
