Actor James Earl Jones, best known in advertising circles for his work for Verizon Communications Inc., will lend
his deep bass voice to a public service radio campaign for San Jose, Calif.-based
privacy seal operation TRUSTe.

The campaign is designed to educate consumers about privacy protection and is
part of TRUSTe’s ongoing educational Privacy Partnership campaign.

Jones has taped 30- and 60- second PSAs for use by radio stations around the
country. The announcements give listeners tips on how to protect their
privacy while on the Internet.

Jones is the first celebrity to give voice to the privacy issue, said company execs.
“We are extremely grateful to James Earl Jones and Verizon Communications for making it
possible to bring awareness of this important issue to new audiences,” said Bob
Lewin, president and chief executive officer of TRUSTe.

The spots will be distributed to the top 300 radio stations in the United
States. The radio spots can be heard here.

TRUSTe also unveiled a poster designed to educate businesses about the
privacy issue. Under the theme “Privacy Is Good Business,” the poster
provides information about the Fair Information Practice principles of notice,
choice, access, security and redress. Beginning immediately, TRUSTe said it
will urge all of its licensees to display the poster in common areas within
the workplace.
