Infrastructure provider Juniper Networks Wednesday said it has inked a deal to provide IP services to NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), a division of Japan’s Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said it will help NTT Com support the build out of its high-performance IP network.

Reaching more than 200 countries, NTT Com provides IP services under the NTT/VERIO brand, as well as managed data, multimedia and additional services under the Arcstar brand.

The announcement comes two days after Juniper said it was buying Unisphere Networks Inc., a unit of German-based Siemens, for about $740 million in cash and stock. The deals are part of Juniper’s master plan to expand its line of equipment and steal market share from rival Cisco Systems .

NTT Com and Juniper said they would work together to make sure NTT Com has a high quality, reliable and scalable IP networking system based on Juniper Networks M-series and T-series Internet routing platforms including Juniper’s recently released T640 Internet Routing Node.

“As part of our global IP business strategy, we are building a service-rich NTT/Verio global IP network (AS2914) throughout the United States, Europe and Asia,” said NTT Communications director of global IP business Takatoshi Okayama. “With the implementation of Juniper Networks’ robust and scalable high-performance network infrastructure we achieve superior capabilities to provide our customers with the reliable and cost-effective IP services they are demanding today and in the future. This agreement with Juniper Networks enables us to offer higher-speed and higher-quality IP services worldwide.”

Through this agreement, NTT Com said it gains a powerful ally in Juniper as it extends its IP network outside of Asia. The agreement is also expected to help NTT Com offer seamless multi-terabit scaling and significantly reduced capital and operational costs.
