Telenor Maps ‘Future Proof’ Network

Jul 1, 2005

Telenor will use equipment from Siemens and Juniper to upgrade its broadband network, the Norwegian carrier announced today.

Under the contract, Siemens will install Juniper core and edge routers that will allow Telenor to provide integrated data, voice and video on a single multi-protocol label switching network based on Internet Protocol standards.

Telenor, and other carriers, are moving to single systems to cut network management costs and offer a package of services that better competes with cable rivals.

The new network is also based on Resilient IP (RESIP), a program of next-generation network design and engineering principles developed jointly by Siemens and Juniper.

”The upgraded network is future proof and gives us the opportunity to offer more services at a competitive price,” Berit Svendsen, a Telenor vice president, said in a statement.

Terms of the agreement, which includes service and maintenance, were not disclosed.

Juniper, which is based in Sunnyvale, Calif., competes against Cisco Systems and others to supply equipment that handles network traffic.
