Airespace Lands in Korea

Wireless LAN switch startup Airespace on Wednesday announced that the Seoul Auto Gallery, the largest auto complex in Korea, has deployed its gear for its wireless network.

This is the first international customer win for the San Jose, Calif.-based company, which touts its centralized architecture for managing access points (AP). The Auto Gallery is using Airespace’s wireless switches and APs, along with its AireWave Director software, throughout its seven-story building.

One of the reasons the Auto Gallery selected the Airespace platform was because of its ability to support converged voice and data applications, according to Jeff Aaron, senior manager of product marketing. The Gallery contains the largest IP telephony network in Korea with more than 2,000 Avaya softphone clients. “They had already purchased the Avaya softphones, and wanted a WLAN infrastructure that could support it.”

The Airespace equipment is designed from the ground up to support real-time access, Aaron said, making it well-suited for wireless voice services. “We’re able to do less than 50 milliseconds of latency traveling across subnets.”

In addition, he said, the AireWave Director software can dynamically detect in real-time if there are any gaps in the coverage, and can automatically adjust signals to maintain consistent traffic delivery.

The Airespace platform also offers multiple security schemes to support the different requirements of the Gallery. Guests, for example, can securely access the network via web authentication, and employees can receive encrypted access to business information.
