Company Ships 802.11b Adapters in Three Flavors

Actiontec Electronics reported Tuesday that it has shipped three new 802.11b Wireless Adapters for home or office use.
The new adapters are designed to work with any desktop or mobile computer that has either a USB port, a PCI slot, or a PCMCIA port, according to the company.

The USB version is “plug and play” and Actiontec said it has a small form factor. The Actiontec PCI adapter, according to the company, is the first one to incorporate the functions of both a wireless PCI adapter and a PC card in one product. Therefore, no separate PCMCIA 802.11b wireless card is needed. The Actiontec PCMCIA 802.11b Wireless Card is compatible with most laptops, the company said.

The PCI and PCMCIA versions are compatible with Windows 95/98/98SE, NT 4.0, ME, and 2000. The USB version is compatible with Win 98, 98SE, ME, and 2000.

Actiontec said the units are currently shipping and should be in retail channels by month’s end at a cost of $119.99 or the USB and PCI adapter and $99.99 for the PCMCIA version.
