Compaq Provides Wireless Service Suite

Hoping to leverage the recent growth of its handhelds in the enterprise, Compaq Computer Corporation Tuesday unveiled a suite of consulting services aimed at making it easier for companies to offer wireless applications.

The company said the goal is to help enterprises integrate wireless applications, middleware, networks and devices. Specifically, the services are aimed at integrating the company’s iPAQ Pocket PC and BlackBerry e-mail devices into the company’s infrastructure.

According to the company, the services are aimed at helping customers identify possible wireless applications that would increase their profitability. The services also will help the companies determine what must be done to the company’s infrastructure before deploying wireless services and to set up pilot projects.

Compaq said its suite of services will help enterprises integrate wireless applications such as messaging, customer relationship management and database applications and will include integration via wireless local area networks.
