Enterprise-Level WLAN Management System Launched

Wavelink Corporation, a wireless application developer, today announced the launch of its Wavelink Mobile Manager for installation and management of wireless local area networks (WLANs). The company claimed that its new solution is a cross-vendor, enterprise grade application that enables network administrators to quickly install and manage wireless networks.

Key among the features is the fact that the solution facilitates management of multi-site WLANs. Ideally, this could result in a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) from maximizing network management effiencies.

According to Wavelink, WLANs can be installed and secured from a centralized location using a single, intuitive management console. It uses what the company refers to as ‘intelligent agents’ to find installed access points (APs) and configure them according to pre-defined, customizable profiles. The agents are involved in the upkeep and maintenance of the WLAN as well. They can initiate routine updates to network settings, including firmware upgrades, to either local or remote WLAN locations. Administrative features can deliver alters and network optimization reports to sysadmin regarding hardware failures and performance issues.

Wavelink also stated that the agent technology, in combination with dynamic profiling, can yield advanced WLAN security features. The solution, according to the company, manages access point security settings such as Access Control Lists and WEP encryption keys.

Wavelink pointed out that this solution supports multi-vendor WLAN infrastructures. This, in addition to centralized management, adds further to TCO reduction and resource maximization.
