Zoom Telephonics, Inc. announced yesterday that it has begun shipping the ZoomAir Model 4165. The unit is a dual external antenna Internet gateway device with a Web-browser based configuration and interface. It can be configured to allow multiple computers access to a cable, DSL, or dial-up connection and to enable file and network resource sharing.
The ZoomAir Model 4165 uses Zoom’s SmartStart installation software, which asks the user simple questions about how the network is to be used and requires no previous network knowledge. The 4165 also includes a security firewall, extensive support for WEP encryption using plain language passwords, and a printer sharing port.
In addition to basic NAT firewall features the 4165 provides MAC address filtering, Packet Filtering, Stateful Packet Inspection, Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), and Port Redirection.
The Model 4165 supports up to 253 users. It includes an Ethernet port, serial interface for connection of analog or ISDN modem, two 10/100 Ethernet ports for wired LAN connections, and a parallel printer port.
Zoom stated that the estimated retail price of the ZoomAir Internet Gateway Model 4165 is $199 after a $30 rebate. The product is available for sale now through typical retail channels.
