Proxim, Inc. (Nasdaq:PROX) said Wednesday it was unfazed by a new 802.11b wireless networking patent infringement suit against it and would defend itself vigorously.

Proxim said that in March it told 70 companies that it intended to collect patent royalties on 802.11 technology. Earlier this week, Agere Systems Inc. sued Proxim saying that Proxim had infringed its patents regarding 802.11b wireless local area networking technology. Also fighting Proxim are Symbol Technologies and Intersil.

In a statement Wednesday, Proxim called the latest actions against it “meritless legal maneuvers.” it noted that at least one company, Compex, already has signed a licensing agreement with Proxim and is in licensing discussions with other companies.
