MeshNetworks, the folks with the innovative Multi-Hopping routing technology that extends the range and robustness of 802.11 WLANs, has teamed with display manufacturer ViewSonic, Inc. in an initiative that will show its first fruits at the CTIA tradeshow in Orlando, March 18 through March 20.
The joint technology initiative by the two companies blends MeshNetworks’ technology with ViewSonic’s line of mobile computing devices. The initiative will also explore the development of a mini-PCI card version of MeshNetworks’ ad hoc peer-to-peer technology for integration into Viewsonic’s upcoming SuperPDA and ViewPad Tablet PC lines.
MeshNetworks technology extends the range of WLANs by actually using the devices in the network as hopping points, thus going well beyond the reach of any given access point. The incorporation of MeshNetworks’ technology into the ViewSonic devices would effectively create highly portable wireless computers connected to a robust 802.11 network.
The ViewSonic ViewPad 100 SuperPDA and ViewPad 1000 Tablet PC, using the MeshNetworks‘ technology, will be demonstrated at the CTIA tradeshow.
