True to form, Microsoft has announced that next Tuesday, August 8, it will release its monthly batch of security updates, to be followed by a Webcast discussing the updates.

And if the pattern we’ve seen in recent months remains steady, new viruses and exploits will follow around one day later.

For the time being, Microsoft will release 10 Microsoft Security Bulletins affecting Microsoft Windows and two Security Bulletins affecting Microsoft Office. There will be Critical fixes for both Windows and Office in this release cycle, meaning they are the highest priority fixes.

As is tradition, Microsoft did not say what the security issues are, although the PowerPoint exploit is likely to be one of them.

The patches will be detectable using the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer and may require a restart. In addition, they can also be downloaded by using the Windows Update feature in Windows XP.

In addition, Microsoft will release an updated version of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. The company did not say what would be new in this update.

Along with the critical fixes, Microsoft will release two non-security high-priority updates on Microsoft Update (MU) and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

Microsoft plans to hold a TechNet Webcast on Wednesday, August 9th at 11:00 AM Pacific Time to discuss the updates.
