One-Third of Enterprises Suffer From Data Loss

Data loss can take on many forms. Businesses can see customer data fall into the wrong hands, theft of intellectual property or the exposure of confidential information at the hands of a subpoena.

All told, nearly one-third of enterprises responding to a recent survey said they experienced some form of data loss in the past year, and some analysts think the problem is even bigger than that. eSecurity Planet takes a look.


Nearly one-third of organizations with more than 1,000 employees were affected by data loss events in the past 12 months, according to a study recently released by cloud-focused security firm Proofpoint.

“Data loss and data exposure events are far from rare,” said Keith Crosley, director of market development at Proofpoint. “Around a third of organizations suffered a data loss event in all of these categories.”
