Booking Travel Gets Social; Cisco, Sabre Team Up

Social networks, particularly Facebook, keep growing. Having recently passed the 500 million mark, Facebook’s popularity is clear. That huge membership also makes Facebook an attractive marketing platform for companies of all sizes so it was perhaps inevitable that airlines would start to take notice.

Ecommerce Guide reports on Delta Airlines’ (NYSE: DAL) pioneering advance on Facebook and also what travel reservation expert Sabre, via its Sabre Travel Network, has cooking with Cisco to boost the reach of the networking giant’s telepresence videoconferencing systems.



In a nod to the growing power of social networks, Delta Airlines became the first airline to let customers book flights on Facebook, the social networking phenomenon that now counts more than 500 million members worldwide.


Separately, the Sabre Travel Network (STN) announced it is working with Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) to bring enhanced reservation services to the networking giant’s telepresence video conferencing systems. Sabre Holdings, which owns STN, also owns travel reservation site Travelocity and offers a range of other travel-related services.
