Dell Enters Web Hosting Market

Computer powerhouse Dell Computer Corp.
Tuesday launched a Web hosting initiative to cater to
small- and medium-sized businesses.

Through a new site, Dell (DELL)
will provide the Internet infrastructure, services and e-commerce expertise
necessary for these businesses to grow and serve their customers on the Web.

Dell’s new site offers clients Web site design services and tools, access to
reliable and scalable Dell PowerEdge servers and PowerVault storage, and a
choice of hosting packages for either dedicated or shared servers. Prices
start at $17.95 per month for shared hosting and $299 per month for
dedicated hosting, with the possibility of additional options for
e-commerce.

Web hosting allows businesses to set up and run Web sites on servers housed
in a separate, secure, data center. Through Web hosting, companies outsource
the servers that run their e-businesses but maintain access to their site’s
information and content.

Dell Vice Chairman Kevin Rollins said the play “is an opportunity for
customers to leverage the capabilities
that run Dell’s $40 million-a-day Web site and establish an online presence
quickly and easily.”

Dell is the world’s leading direct computer systems company, based on
revenues of $25.3 billion for the past four quarters, and is a premier
provider of products and services required for customers to build their
Internet infrastructures.
