Gomez Prepares European Push

Readying for a European push, online marketing and e-commerce specialist Gomez has acquired two U.K. companies, WebPerform and ActualIT. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“We’re always looking at Web-based technologies that embrace and extend our suite of Internet channel effectiveness products and services,” Alan Alper, a Gomez spokesman told internetnews.com.

Like Gomez, 3-year-old WebPerform helps IT and business managers make more informed decisions about their online operations by tracing and analyzing the behavior of Web site users.

The service can also be delivered by third parties, such as managed network services providers, many of whom have expressed interest in feedback about Internet protocol systems and applications.

Through WebPerform, Gomez also gains technical expertise. WebPerform’s Paul Leroux, is now Gomez’s CTO, and Peter Colaluca, WebPerform’s CEO, becomes vice President of Gomez Europe.

The ActualIT deal brings Gomez’s U.K. reseller in-house. Founded in 1989, it become a Gomez channel partner in August 2002.

“The acquisition of ActualIT brings a proven sales team to Gomez Europe, which together with WebPerform’s strong customer services organization helps clients continuously improve the business effectiveness of the Internet channel,” Colaluca said.

As part of the deal, ActualIT’s Karl Havard becomes director of UK Sales for Gomez Europe. He heads a sales team that has already landed the The British Broadcasting Co., British Airways and The Guardian.

Gomez, based in Waltham, Mass., said the acquisitions underscore its commitment to the U.K. market.They also lays the groundwork for the rollout of services across Europe, including its Web site functionality, usability, response time and success rate offerings, later this year.

Alper said no decisions have been made about which countries Gomez would target first.
