Enterprise e-commerce systems provider InterWorld Corp. today announced a
worldwide partnership with Federal Express Corp. (FedEx) to provide shipment, logistics, and fulfillment capabilities for corporations.
The companies said the alliance would further advance InterWorld’s Enterprise Commerce applications and framework, known as the InterWorld Business Adapter.
The system enables customers to link directly from InterWorld’s
Commerce Exchange system to FedEx’s shipment, fulfillment, logistics
and return processing services, automating the entire commerce transaction process, the company said. It is scheduled for availability in the second quarter of 1998.
“InterWorld’s technology allows businesses to extend their marketing reach via the Internet without redesigning their core business processes,” said Laurie Tucker, senior vice president of logistics, electronic commerce and catalog for FedEx.
“The combined InterWorld/FedEx solution will simplify the integration of the virtual electronic commerce environment with the physical delivery of products. Information is captured for each transaction and made
available to both the business and its customer simultaneously.”
The solution will reportedly include shipment calculations, tax calculations, shipment and tracking, logistics, fulfillment, and returns processes.
Among the other features: product merchandising and presentation capabilities; automated order management; scalability; and visibility and integration with the Supply-Chain.
