today launched a new shopping search site, that combines Lycos’ search technology with BizRate.com comparison shopping tools. Neither the duration of the partnership, nor the financial terms were disclosed.
The site will compete with shopping services from other Internet content heavy-hitters including America Online and Yahoo!.
Located at bizrate.lycos.com, the service lets consumers find the best deal by quickly checking more than 32,000 online stores. The site covers a vast range of products including electronics, books,clothing toys and games, and music. Live help is also available for shoppers.
“Our users continue to tell us the two most important driving factors in their search experience are relevancy and ease of use,” said Tom Wilde, manager of search services for Terra Lycos, a Spanish media giant with U.S. operations in Waltham, Mass.
A Terra Lycos spokesman was not immediately available for additional comment.
For 7-year-old, privately held BizRate, the deal gives it broader exposure for its comparison shopping software.
“Lycos will help generate traffic and exposure for the thousands of merchants at BizRate.com,” said Chuck Davis, president and CEO of Los Angeles-based BizRate.com.
