NCR, Tactica Sign Pact to Offer Middleware for E-Commerce

NCR and Tactica Corp. signed a global reseller and
referral agreement that will result in the integration of both companies’
flagship transaction-processing middleware products in extended enterprise and
e-commerce applications.

For customers, the agreement means that NCR’s online and Tactica’s offline
Transaction Processing middleware will help them streamline operations, as
well as lower the cost of communications and the cost of doing business, the
companies said.

“Taken together, the products from these two companies represent a complete
middleware solution for transaction processing within an organization’s office
walls, as well as outside of them,” said Jim Johnson, chairman of the Standish
Group, a well-known computer industry analyst firm. “The partnership . . .
brings
the benefits of transaction processing to the rapidly growing mobile and
remote market.”

Tactica–a supplier of offline transaction processing (OFTP) middleware for
distributed transaction processing–will support NCR TOP END distributed
enterprise middleware as the transaction-processing monitor of choice for its
online transaction-processing (OLTP) solutions on a customer’s local area
network (LAN).

For customers who extend their transaction-processing applications over
wide area networks (WAN)–such as the Internet, telephone land lines,
wireless, and private and public value-added networks–NCR will refer
customers to Tactica’s Caprera Programmable OFTP Server.

“By working together, NCR and Tactica will reduce the risk and cost of
implementing information systems that incorporate a company’s extended
organization into the business process,” said Tony Evans, director of channel
marketing at Tactica. Portland, OR-based Tactica, founded in 1995, is
privately owned and venture capital funded.

Dayton, OH-based NCR delivers commercial open computer systems for transaction
processing and decision-support solutions to customers in all industries.
