Barnes & Noble Inc. named a leading Bertelsmann AG
Internet executive as chief
executive officer of barnesandnoble.com, which is a joint
venture between the bookseller and the German media group.

Jonathan Bulkeley was previously managing director of AOL U.K., the British
operation of the AOL Bertelsmann joint venture in Europe.

Bulkeley replaces Stephen Riggio, who will resume his full-time duties as vice
chairman of Barnes & Noble. Barnes & Noble and Bertelsmann each own 50 percent
of barnesandnoble.com.

Barnes and Noble said AOL during Bulkeley’s tenure became the UK’s leading
Internet online service, gaining more than half a million members. Prior to
that, Bulkeley held other marketing, sales and e-commerce jobs with AOL dating
back to 1993, when he served as general manager of U.S. media. Riggio will
continue to be involved in the strategic direction of barnesandnoble.com,
especially in connection with Barnes & Noble’s retail business and future
acquisitions.
