Online pet supplier Petstore.com, Tuesday acquired online tropical fish e-tailer Flying Fish Express.

Petstore.com will begin offering saltwater fish and corals on Aug. 25. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Flying Fish Express, formed in March 1997, offers a unique Five-Day Arrive Alive guarantee on corals and fish in which handling is minimized to ensure the safe arrival of aquatic life–an improvement over the methods of traditional aquarium retailers.

“We see the Petstore.com acquisition as a natural fit,” said Eric Silverman, CEO of Flying Fish. “Flying Fish Express was established and staffed by a team of seasoned passionate professionals in saltwater aquarium retailing. This will also allow Flying Fish Express to simplify the ordering process and provide easy access to more product categories for fish owners nationwide.”

Flying Fish Express sales a variety of aquatic life, including saltwater fish, clams, corals, live rock, and invertebrates for hobbyists. Fish sales account for nearly 25 percent of the earnings in a $31 billion dollar pet industry, with one out of every 10 pet owners owning an aquarium.

“We believe by offering customers the opportunity to buy fish as well as the products they need to take care of fish is keeping with Petstore.com’s dedication to being the source for pet care solutions,” said Josh Newman, CEO of Petstore.com.
