PhotoLoft.com to Power Canon USA’s HyperPhoto Network

PhotoLoft.com said it has been tapped to
provide online photo storage, file sharing and e-commerce infrastructure for
Canon’s new service, the HyperPhoto Network,
set to launch in April.

The HyperPhoto Network is the first service introduced under Canon USA’s
newly launched imageLand.net initiative, offering consumers a bricks and
mortar/online integration via which you can drop off film for processing
and then select the photos you want online.

Designed for both photo-finishers and consumers as a complete imaging
solution, the HyperPhoto Network provides a retail presence for uploading and
digitizing images; an Internet destination for photo storage (powered by
PhotoLoft.com), photo sharing, and online orders; and a network of photo labs
with printing capabilities.

Canon is also launching HyperPhoto Digital Express, an in-store system
available in retail outlets that is designed to provide a link to and from
the HyperPhoto Network.

“This is the future — drop your film at your local developer and go online
from the comfort of your home to choose the prints you want,” said
PhotoLoft.com chief executive officer Jack Marshall.

“Canon has developed a seamless and easy
solution to the digital revolution. By giving dealers the appropriate tools
to provide quality digital services to their customers, Canon is bringing the
benefits of digital imaging to the consumer quickly, easily and
inexpensively.”

To take advantage of this network, consumers simply drop their film or
digital camera cards at any participating photo lab.

At that time, customers
receive an album ID and password and can view their photos on-line by
accessing imageland.net and clicking on the HyperPhoto Network. From there,
they can order prints (any number and size), send e-cards or
photo-personalized cards to be mailed via U.S. mail, and order
photo-personalized gifts. Online print orders may be routed back to the
authorized dealer for fulfillment.

In addition to uploading images to the HyperPhoto Network, the HyperPhoto
Digital Express System will also create Image CDs, Image Disks, and Index
Sheets. Canon USA said it will target its initial sales efforts toward the
photo lab, camera store, and print-for-pay markets.

Financial terms of the deal with PhotoLoft.com were not disclosed.
