The president of WebMD Corp. has left the struggling online-healthcare information company amid an apparent shake-up among senior management. Four executives are to fill his post.
The Elmwood Park, N.J.-based WebMD said Marvin Rich left as president to “pursue other opportunities” and that the office would now consist of four executives reporting directly to Martin Wygod, the chairman and CEO.
The reporting execs are Thomas Apker, the chief operating officer; Kevin Cameron, executive vice president for business development; Roger Holstein, CEO for consumer services; Michael Singer, CEO for practice management sales and services.
All four are to be responsible for WebMD’s day-to-day operations and strategic planning, which includes the company’s ongoing restructuring in order to reach profitability.
In a statement, Wygod praised Rich’s leadership in implementing WebMD’s restructuring and thanked him for his efforts in streamlining the company.
Like many companies formed in the late 1990’s dot-com gold rush, WebMD is now struggling to cut costs, absorb its pricey acquisitions and turn a profit. In addition, it has warned that the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon would likely impact its third quarter costs, including shipping and telecommunications.
Shares of WebMD were up slightly at $3.53 during early trading Thursday.
