GeoCities said that Priceline.com, the first service to enable leisure travelers to name their own price for airline tickets, will be a featured sponsor of The Tropics–GeoCities’ vacation, resort, and travel-
focused neighborhood.

Stamford, CT-based Priceline.com debuted April 6 and said it hosted more than one million visitors in its first week.

Consumers complete a Priceline ticket request on the Web site specifying where they want to go, the dates they want to travel, the price they want to pay for a round-trip ticket, and the major credit card they guarantee for use.

In one hour for domestic travel–24 hours for international travel–priceline.com promises to find out if an airline is willing to release seats, and if so, the flights, and routing. If seats are released, priceline.com immediately issues confirmed tickets via electronic ticketing, Federal Express, or USPS Express.

As part of its sponsorship (spending was not disclosed), priceline.com will
command the featured advertising space on the Tropics Community Center page.
In addition, GeoCities created a sweepstakes that will run from April 22 to May 5, where consumers visiting the priceline.com travel center on GeoCities can enter to win a $250 travel voucher.
