Shopping.com Announces Management Shakeup

Jan 6, 1999

Embattled e-commerce site Shopping.com Wednesday announced a
management shakeup.

The changes come amid published reports and message board postings from
customers complaining of inaccurate credit card charges, connection
problems and shipping delays.

Frank Denny, who had been shopping.com’s chairman, assumes the chief
executive officer spot previously held by John Markley. Markley will remain
a member of the company’s board of directors.

Randall Read will become shopping.com’s new chairman. He comes to the
company from Stone Container Corp. where he was its chief financial and
planning officer.

“In accepting this new key role, I am extremely bullish about moving our
business forward and addressing all events, past or present, that have
contributed to negative and sometimes inaccurate media coverage during the
past year,” Read said.

Addressing the recent spate of bad publicity, Denny termed the reported
problems isolated. He said they were the result of a three-fold increase in
customers following a successful ad campaign that began last October.
