A leading company in Internet commerce, the granddaddy of music retailing on the Web, the premier supplier of online medical information, and one of the leading interactive advertising agencies were honored as this year’s Summit ’98, the New York New Media Leadership Conference.

The all-day conference on new media in New York, sponsored by Coopers & Lybrand L.L.P.’s New Media Group and Crain’s New York Business, explores the issues affecting the new media industry in New York.

Honorees include:

  • Agency.com, one of the first interactive advertising agencies in the city. It has expanded largely through internal growth and remains independent. This year the company expects to post $30 million in revenues.
  • InterWorld Corp., a New York-based developer of electronic commerce software. The firm has attracted $50 million in venture capital from GE Capital, George Soros, Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone and others. Its clients include major corporations such as Toys “R” Us.
  • Medscape Inc., which has flourished as other content companies have come and gone in Silicon Alley. Its content ranges from thousands of peer-reviewed articles to medical databases to coverage of medical conferences. The company has attracted more than 600,000 members as well as $11 million in venture capital.
  • N2K Inc., an online retailer of CDs and a
publisher of original content about jazz, rock and roll, classical and country music. The firm was the first online music retailer to go public, netting $125 million in two offerings in the space of six months.
