Sun Microsystems Inc. rolled out an
enhanced Web-based ordering service for its new Darwin workstations, and a
custom integration service for its more complex high-end workstation and
low-end server products.

“Our ultimate goal is to make the Web the primary desktop access for all
customers, including resellers, to do business with us, and we will continue
to expand our Web-based services toward that end,” said Al Ormiston, vice
president and general manager of the companys SunExpress Business Group.

Customers in the U.S. can order Sun’s new Ultra 5 and Ultra 10 workstations
online at SunExpress, where
they can select system configurations, obtain a corporate discount, place
orders, and view the status of their orders.

Sun’s Configure-to-Order program is a new service that delivers custom
hardware configurations of the company’s midrange and high-end workstation
products and Sun Enterprise 1 and Sun Enterprise 2 servers at no additional
charge. Customers indicate the systems they need, then select options from a
list of available hardware additions.
