Continuing to push paid services, Terra Lycos unveiled a new version of its Quote.com investor site, adding real-time market data and online trading tools.
The Madrid-based Internet access and content giant said the improvements result from a new agreement with CyberTrader, a subsidiary of Charles Schwab .
“Lycos is focusing more on high-end individual traders, which may be fewer in number than small investors, but account for the lion’s share of the market in terms of volume traded,” a Terra Lycos spokesman told internetnews.com.
The enhanced features come with Quote.com’s QCharts 4.3, a Windows-based application allowing customers to create their own trading systems and make instant trades.
QCharts can be downloaded via Quote.com Web site. The basic service costs $79 per month, not counting real-time data fees. A more advanced version, which adds news research and option analysts, starts at $99 per month. To trade with CyberTrader on Quote.com, users must establish an account with CyberTrader.
The QCharts service is part of Terra Lycos’ efforts to sign and retain users for paid offerings. As the online advertising market swooned over the last two years, the company has developed additional specialized “premium” services such as Web publishing, video games and detailed financial content, to lock in recurring revenues.
More than 1 million people use Quote.com free servies every month. Of those, more than 30,000 are paid users, the company said.
