Uncle Sam Wants You, Via Monster.com

Monster.com wants you for the U.S. military.

The online job-posting site’s Monster Government Solutions (MGS) division is partnering with several branches of the U.S. Department of Defense to list jobs and help the military branches recruit for new members.

The collaboration is a sign that the Department of Defense is deploying the Internet as another recruiting channel, in an effort to reach new potential soldiers, officers and civilian employees at each of the branches.

Jeff Taylor, chairman and founder of Monster, said the U.S. military is actively looking for qualified people to join the Reserve and active duty. But what most people don’t realize, he added, is that the military needs to hire civilians to fill other critical staffing roles.

Monster said since the Naval Reserve has been working with the site for about eight months, the online postings have become its main source of leads on candidates for local positions, including positions in medical, construction and trades, intelligence, law enforcement, retail and general electronic technicians.

It is also posting civilian jobs available in other branches, such as the Air Force and Army, at which job postings include positions for parachute riggers, percussion and French horn players, ammunition specialists and administrative assistants.

Faced with a drop-off in job postings during the past few years of a sluggish economy, the Maynard, Mass., Monster.com and its parent company, TMP Worldwide, have been moving aggressively to capture more share of government job postings. The shift comes as government agencies increasingly move beyond print advertising in filling government jobs.
