Atlanta-based UPS’ Worldwide Logistics unit
(UPS WWL) said it
is providing warehouse management and distribution services for the newly
launched online shopping portal, WorldSpy.
By outsourcing fulfillment and shipping to UPS WWL, WorldSpy operates as a
shopping site without owning a physical storefront, warehouse or product
inventory.
“We’ve helped WorldSpy turn the traditional retail model on its head,” said
John Sutthoff, UPS WWL chief operating officer. “UPS WWL handles the movement
of products along the supply chain and allows WorldSpy to manage its vast
system of seamlessly integrated research content and efficient e-commerce
transactions.”
With the help of WWL, WorldSpy enables manufacturers to outsource all or part
of their e-commerce requirements and sell directly to consumers. As orders are
placed on the WorldSpy Web site, they are downloaded to UPS WWL’s distribution
center computers for order fulfillment and shipping. WorldSpy’s manufacturing
partners can access information on the receipt, storage and sale of goods.
Online shipment tracking and order status also is available for consumers.
Launched in December 1998, Ardsley, NY-based WorldSpy offers consumers online
research and comparison capabilities in addition to online shopping, and
features
products from manufacturers such as IBM and Brother. WorldSpy also provides
free delivery within three days.
