US Airways, Expedia Settle Dispute

Online travel site Expedia is selling tickets for US Airways flights on its Web platform again after US Airways pulled its sales following a dispute in early December over increased booking fees.

The new partnership means that Expedia customers can now purchase US Airways tickets through all of Expedia’s worldwide points of sale, including Expedia.com, Expedia Corporate Travel and Expedia.ca, the companies said.

The airline, the seventh-largest in the United States, had announced in early December that it would not sell tickets on Expedia after the site, which is owned by Barry Diller’s InterActiveCorp. , protested its move to increase booking fees by as much at $4 per ticket in late November ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday season.

Expedia previously confirmed that the booking fee was hiked from $5 to $8.99 for tickets sold on US Airways flights. A spokesman told internetnews.com that the move was related to a disagreement over terms of a new contract between the two sides.

But US Airways said Expedia’s move to leave the booking fees of competing airlines at $5 made its fares appear higher.

Beyond announcing they have a new partnership in which US Airways’ tickets are again available on Expedia’s sites, the companies gave no other details.

Barney Harford, a vice president at Expedia, called US Airways an important partner whose service is highly valued by Expedia’s customers. “We are pleased to continue building our relationship with them,” he said in a statement.
