Who says reading is a solitary pursuit? Certainly not Amazon, the pioneering e-commerce company that built a multi-billion-dollar business out of selling books (and eventually most everything else) over the Internet.

The company is now offering a software update to its popular Kindle e-reading device that will allow users to share favorite passages from books with their pals on Facebook and Twitter. Enterprise Mobile Today has the details.

In a nod to the growing popularity of social networks, Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) has given Kindle users the ability to share meaningful passages from the books they’re reading to friends on Facebook and Twitter directly from the device. The free update also adds password protection to keep content on the device safe from prying eyes when not in use.
